Mining Collections of UMONS

The Mining Collections of the former Faculty of Engineering of Mons (now known as the UMONS Faculty of Engineering) contains more than 400 documents dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries.

This collection contains books and leaflets on many topics regarding mining, such as mining techniques, mining exploitation, coal mining, and mining law and legislation, to name but a few. End-of-study projects (equivalent to a “Master thesis” by today’s standards) dating back to 1920-1930, along with numerous treatises and manuals that were used for teaching purposes at the Ecole des Mines de Mons until World War I, also have a place in this collection.

The Belgian documents of this collection, with a focus on mineral resource exploitation in Belgium, engineering, and teaching, have been made digital and are listed below.
