Numerical ecology of aquatic systems

WHO ARE WE?

The Numerical Ecology of Aquatic Systems group is involved in teaching biostatistics and aquatic ecology at the University of Mons.

Our artificial mesocoms host a reef community of organisms centered around hermatypic corals . We study adaptation potentials of these animals to environmental changes, including by using original and patented chemostats.

We also develop a know-how in scientific software programming under R, including software for ecology like Zoo/PhytoImage  and for biostatistics like SciViews.

Our studies on plankton aim to automatize their identification and measurement through numerical image analysis coupled with machine learning techniques.

Our group provides consultancy and specialized courses in biostatistics, aquariology and software development around R. We are also members of the C.I.B.I.M. ("Centre Interuniversitaire de Biologie Marine", interuniversity centre for marine biology).

HOW TO CONTACT US, HOW TO MEET US ?

OUR RESEARCH TOPICS

Ecophysiology of hermatypic corals:
we study Seriatopora hystrix and other scleractinians in artificial mesocosms and chemostat.

Plankton studies by image analysis:
the future in planktonology is in advanced technologies; We participate to the development of new tools...
