Whether you are a European Union student or are from outside the EU and wish to begin or continue your studies at UMONS, the following sections provide a wide variety of useful information.
A registration request is introduced according to the procedure defined in the rules and regulations for studies. It is not admissible if the student does not fulfill all the admission requirements for the studies concerned.
The academic authorities can reject a student's registration if their decision is duly motivated and in accordance with the procedure foreseen in the studies regulations.
The student must prove that he meets the requirements to register for studies at UMONS.
In case of fraud at registration, the student immediately loses his status as a normally registered student as well as all the incumbent rights of a full-fledged UMONS student. The institution keeps the registration fees that have been paid. The student may not be admitted into any higher education institution for the following five academic years.

Students who wish to register for the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Education - logopedics (orthophony), are subject to the specific measures of the decree of 16 June 2006 of the French Community of Belgium establishing the number of students in certain first cycle study programmes in higher education.These students are requested to contact the UMONS Registration and Certificates Office.

Within the general terms set by the academic authorities, students who hold credentials that do not automatically open access to second cycle studies under the terms of what precedes, can, however be admitted by the studies panel, on the basis of an admissions file, if this credential sanctions first cycle studies and is validated by the studies panel for at least 180 credits.
At the end of the admissions procedure, the student may be required to follow extra courses for a maximum of 60 additional credits.When the additional workload of such a student exceeds 15 credits, this training constitutes a preparatory year of study. It does not lead to a diploma and is regarded as the last year of a first cycle programme that opens access to the studies concerned.

Students who wish to register for AESS studies as ordered by the Decree of 8 February 2001 defining the initial training of secondary school teachers must prove they have sufficient profiency in the French language.This proof can be provided by:
On the conditions set by the academic authorities, students having fruitfully completed one year of doctoral training also have access to the studies and work related to a doctoral dissertation.
=> (Academic) degree: Title corresponding to the level attained within a degree programme recognised by the Decree of 31 March 2004 and certified by a degree.
=> Accreditation for prior experiential learning: Process of evaluation and recognition of knowledge and skills of a candidate for admission to a degree programme.
=> Admission: Process verifying whether a student fulfils the requirements to undertake a particular cycle of studies. Admission is made official by the student’s effective registration for courses.
=> Advanced Master’s Degree: Level-7 second cycle academic degree corresponding to a specific professional qualification and awarded upon completion of at least 60 credits after initial training of at least 300 credits certified by a Master’s Degree.
=> Bachelor: First cycle academic degree awarded upon completion of at least 180 credits.
=> Certificate: Document attesting to the successful completion of a training programme and the awarding of corresponding credits, without conferring an academic degree.
=> Credit: Unit of measure corresponding to the time spent by the student on learning activities in a given discipline within a study programme. Credits are awarded to the student after favourable assessment of the skills and knowledge acquired.
=> Cycle: A series of years of study leading to an academic degree. Higher education is divided into three study cycles.
=> Dean: The highest academic authority at the level of the Faculties (Dean-Presidents), the Director of the Institute of Language Sciences and the President of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences
=> Degree programme: Studies leading up to a specific academic degree. A degree programme can extend over one or more study cycles.
=> Diploma: Document attesting to the successful completion of studies and the academic degree conferred upon completion of these studies.
=> Equivalency: Process (in conformity with the law of 19 March 1971 related to the equivalence of foreign diplomas, degrees, and certificates) intended to assimilate a student’s competence and knowledge, certified by one or more credentials, to those required at the end of a degree programme in our higher education institutions. This equivalency is certified by a notification of equivalency delivered by the appropriate authorities.
=> Faculty: The Faculties (colleges), the Institute of Language Sciences, the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences.
=> Field of study: Branch of knowledge corresponding to one or more study programmes, called a category in the statute of 5 August 1995 regulating the general organisation of higher education and vocational schools.
=> Higher education: Level of education referred to in the statute of 31 March 2004.
=> Higher education institution: Institution offering a study programme recognised by the Decree of 31 March 2004. Depending upon the sector of study for which these institutions are recognised: a university, a vocational school, a school for the arts, an architectural institute or a university academy.
=> Master’s Degree: Second cycle academic degree delivered by a university or other higher education institution in accordance with the statute of 31 March 2004 or previous legal provisions and awarded upon completion of at least 60 credits after an initial training cycle of at least 180 credits.
=> Programme of study: The entirety of learning activities that constitute studies; the programme specifies the timely organisation into years of study and corresponding credits.
=> Decree of 31 March 2004: Statute of 31 March 2004 defining higher education, favouring its integration into the European network of higher education, and refinancing universities.
If you are admitted to UMONS, you may not be a “financeable student” (students for whom the University receives subsidies from the French Community).
