You need to fill out several forms, sign them and have them signed by the staff member at your home university who is responsible for your stay (or by the UMONS instructor who is responsible for your stay in Mons).
Send them to:UNIVERSITE DE MONSService des Relations Internationales (Candice DE VOEGHT) Place du parc, 20B 7000 MONS (Belgium)
Your application will be taken into account ONLY WHEN the University of Mons International Office has received your duly completed application form .
Deadline for applications: 15 August for students arriving in the first term, 01 December for students arriving in the second term.
Completion of this form is compulsory. You will not be registered at the University of Mons if this form is not received in time.
This form must be completed carefully and signed by the Institutional Coordinator at your home university and must absolutely arrive at the UMONS International Office before you arrive in Mons.
The Learning Agreement has to be defined by your Institutional Coordinator or the instructor at your home institution who is responsible for your exchange. This duly completed and approved document must reach us before your arrival in Mons.
It is forbidden to modify your Learning Agreement during the course of your studies abroad without prior approval from the academic authorities of the University of Mons AND your home university. If changes are unavoidable, the ECTS Learning Agreement may be modified by using a form that is specific to this purpose, available at the UMONS International Office.
Deadline for housing requests: 15 August for students arriving in the first term, 01 December for students arriving in the second term.
The housing confirmation letter will be sent between 15 August and 15 September for students arriving in the first term.
ERASMUS students may benefit from two different types of housing:
1) University housing (private room in the Cité de la Grande Triperie): Rooms in UMONS housing are attributed on a "first come, first served" basis, so students are advised to submit their documents as early as possible. This is why only applicants who have sent their documents early will be allowed to stay in University housing.
If you only stay one quadrimester, be aware that you will have 5 months of rent to pay (even if your stay is for less than 5 months). Also, if you stay the whole academic year, you must pay 10 months of rent (even if your stay is for less than 10 months).
Payments can only be made by bank transfer and are due by the 1st of the month.

A downpayment (equivalent to one month's rent) will be added to your first month's rent. This sum will be reimbursed at the end of your stay - as long as you leave your room clean and undamaged (or in the state it was when you moved in).
The various facilities that are available to you in University housing are mentioned on this link.
Note for Engineering students:
All FPMs students are housed in the Cité Houzeau as long as the Housing Request Form is received by the UMONS International Office by 15 August.
2) Housing in town (in privately-owned residences)
If you do not receive a room in a UMONS residence hall, our office can try to help you find a privately-owned room.
For your reservation to be effective, you must pay the owner (before coming to Belgium) a downpayment equivalent to one month's rent. This sum will be reimbursed at the end of your stay - as long as you leave your room clean and undamaged (or in the state it was when you moved in).
NOTE: Once you have accepted a student room, you have made a commitment with the owner. If you change your mind afterwards, you will be responsible for finding another renter or paying the rent until another renter is found.
UMONS keeps an up-to-date list of student rooms available in town.
ERASMUS students who have not been admitted into university housing can request this list at the International Office.
You can also find another housing list at the following URL: Inforjeunes.
IMPORTANT REMARKS
Housing requests that are received after the deadline will not be taken into consideration.
The effective housing dates for the room are mentioned in the Housing request form. It is very important to give precise dates!
- Official proof of identity (identity card or passport)- Proof of health insurance (previously the "E111/E128" form) (or the equivalent for private insurance) to be obtained from your health insurance company - At least 2 recent identity photos
If you have an ERASMUS-LLP grant, make sure that your payment is made before coming to Mons. If necessary, foresee a budget that is substantial enough to cover your expenses for moving to Mons (for example, a deposit and/or first month’s rental fee).

Most students arrive at the airport in Brussels (Zaventem airport). You can take the train to Mons. The train schedules are available on the SNCB website.
When you get to Mons, we advise you to first go to your accommodations.
The trip from the train station to your room is at your own expense. Free buses make routes from the station to various points around the city (circuit A, B or C - you can get a map of the routes at the TEC office located across from the station, place Léopold 9A).
Within 7 days of your arrival in Mons, come to the International Office (Warocqué building, office 034L on the Map) to complete your arrival form.
Note: If you come to the UMONS International Office more than seven days after your arrival in Mons, we reserve the right to refuse your registration.
An information session for all Erasmus students will take place shortly after your arrival. Before the beginning of the academic year, you will receive an email with the date, time and place of the meeting. All of the administrative formalities of your stay will be explained at that time. Afterwards, come to the International Office to complete 2 indispensable formalities:
