Although we are not often aware of it, mathematics is omnipresent in our daily life. To quote only a few examples, weather predictions, inventory, detection of cancer-prone areas, banking products, special effects in films, and video games… all these things call upon very sophisticated mathematics.
It is believed that the relation beween mathematics and science and technology dates back several thousands of years and that it developed thanks to “the honour of the human spirit”, as C.G. Jacobi, the great mathematician, once said.
Studying Mathematics at UMONS will give you the opportunity to nurture two aspects: opening up to the world on one hand, and critical spirit, rigour, the development of intuition and formal reasoning on the other hand. You will be guided by a dynamic and internationally recognised research team that has a real interest in teaching. The quality of the degree that you will be awarded will be recognised and valued by both the public and private sectors.
The courses in the Bachelor programme will give you a solid foundation in mathematics. Specific guidance will help you to succeed in your transition from secondary school to university. As of the first year, you will be able to study a complementary discipline:
The Master programme offers four subspecialisations as a continuation of the choice made during the Bachelor programme. They are in direct relation with the career you wish to pursue.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to study an elective within your degree programme in order to reflect the complementary skills that you have acquired.
