We have characterised the gene coding for the DNA Helicase-like Transcription Factor (HLTF). This protein is involved in DNA damage repair and prevents mutations from appearing. We showed that the HLTF gene is over-expressed in many cancer types and very early in the transformation process. We noted that HTLF proteins which are over-expressed in cancers are actually truncated. These proteins have lost their capacity to repair DNA and we are currently trying to understand what advantage it represents for cancer cells to produce them in large quantities.
