Work Psychology Unit


Head of Unit: Professor Agnes Van Daele

The Work Psychology Unit develops research activities in the fields of ergonomics and human resource development. It collaborates with companies and government agencies on designing and transforming work situations, or situations of product use, and assists with aspects of management skills and vocational training. Lastly, it regularly responds to requests regarding studies, advice and expertise.

What is Work Psychology?

Work psychology is about the performance of people at work and with how they behave and function in technical and social environments encountered in the workplace. Models are developed to better understand and improve the relationships between people and the environment.

The main areas of activity are:

  • Work: performance measurement and management, human-computer interaction and development, quality of working life (health and welfare), the improvement of working conditions;
  • Staff: recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, career management, orientation, integration, motivation and satisfaction;
  • Organisation: leadership, communication, negotiation, conflict management, organisational structure, business culture, organisational climate analysis.
