Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Education: General

Course Overview

Successful completion of the Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Education (General) gives students the opportunity to study for the Master’s degree in Psychology or the Master’s degree in Education. The Bachelor programme enables them to acquire the required knowledge and skills for these Master courses.

The course provides solid theoretical and methodological training in psychology and educational sciences. Many disciplines in the field have thus been developed for the Bachelor programme: clinical psychology, psychology of work and organisations, disability psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, learning, education and training, among many more.

The course also covers the bases of life sciences, such as biology, neurophysiology and neuroanatomy, and provides more general training in related disciplines, for example, sociology, philosophy, and history of education.

The course focuses particularly on statistical and linguistic methods (EFL) and tools essential for research and professional practice in psychology and education.

Programme Structure

The Bachelor programme totals at least 180 credits divided into three annual 60-credit blocks.

A significant proportion of the programme is made up of compulsory subjects and a smaller proportion for electives. The core curriculum (compulsory courses) is composed of courses covering the following areas:

  •  Biology;
  • Society and culture;
  • Practices and methods;
  • Personal and professional development project;
  • languages.

The optional modules (in Block 3 of the Bachelor programme) allow students to further their knowledge within specific thematic domains. These modules touch on the thematic domains of the Master programmes.

The course also requires students to complete a personal and professional development project during the first year, comprising of personal research, contact with professionals in the domain, and seminar work. This project provides the students with guidance to help them make choices about their future.

The Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Education (General) is similar to the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Education (Speech and Language Therapy). The first 60-credit annual block is identical for both specialising fields, facilitating the possible transition from one to the other at the end of the first academic year. The rest of the cycle is distinguished by 59 credits common to both specialising fields and 61 credits specific to each one.
