Karstic Collapse

Karstic risk becomes apparent due to land collapse resulting from the subsidence of weathered limestone under overloaded terranes. The Department of Geology specialises in this field and has participated in the cartography of karstic constraint in the Région wallonne (Belgian regional government) as well as developing expertise regarding building infrastructures in areas of karstic risk, such as private housing and industrial areas. In this context, highly specialised investigation techniques are applied to electric tomography, seismic and gravity methods, penetration tests and boreholes..
