Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages

For a long time, and coordinated by specialists of language teaching from Mons, the Institute has questioned the optimal conditions for modern language learning and teaching. The issue surrounding French as a Foreign Language (FLE) and French as a Second Language (FLS) is subject to scientific development with special focus on assessment. The cognitive modalities of acquiring new control regimes of perception and production in non-native languages are also studied in the University’s phonetics laboratory. Meanwhile, the UMONS Centre for Modern Languages (Centre de Langues Vivantes – CLV) is responsible for FRANEL, a free e-learning platform for learning French and Dutch and so far comprises more than 40,000 users.
